How The BYP Network Became A Part Of Black History.

February 28, 2018

So let’s talk about the Black Panther screening.

Covent Garden was poppin’ and not just because it was a Friday night. There were over 200 of you wonderful BYP Network members who joined us at the Covent Garden Odeon for the screening of Black Panther.

What people are calling the movie of the decade, (so much black excellence in one movie, it was beautiful), Black Panther smashed all previously held box office records, and was the biggest Marvel opening to date.

This shows how much power the black community has - how many of us want to see a movie that represents us. We are hopeful that producers, executives and directors see that we are a powerful demographic - we are not to be ignored.

The vibe was powerful, and I don’t think it hit me until I watched it again on the Sunday at a normal screening. Having 200 black young professionals in one space watching a movie that really represented all of us was significant. Most importantly, it showed me that having a platform like BYP Network was well overdue.

It reminded me that there are so few events that celebrate us - black young professionals who want to unwind and network with other like-minded people and experience something special as a group. This has only spurred me on to host more events, create more opportunities for all of you and put my efforts into showcasing each of you, and your many talents, to the world.

Thank you again to those who attended, those who have showed up for previous events and to everyone who has downloaded the app. You guys are the backbone of BYP Network, we are nothing without you all. This year is going to be special, and we hope each and every one of you joins us along for the ride.

Have you joined the BYP Network App? Download today to meet other black young professionals.
