Breaking Into The Elite
Hey BYP Network,
I hope you're having a great week. This week's newsletter is jam packed with lots of exciting news, from special guests at our Senior Leadership Conference to new sponsors, and other extras such as new job roles & the chance to get onto a free accelerator program. Check it all out below, but before you do, let's talk Breaking Into the Elite.
For those of you who missed this (it clashes with Love Island), Breaking Into the Elite was a BBC2 documentary that looked into the differing lives and progression of graduates of varied backgrounds and how they attempted to start their professional lives. It got me to thinking about my journey into my career and how I ended up as the founder of BYP.
Following last week's BBC News feature, I had mixed feelings. Despite all the positive feedback and kind words, I also faced backlash and endured abuse at the hands of a Twitter hacker. It made me think about what we, as black professionals, have to face when we do break into the elite and become visible in spaces we're not typically represented in.
This week, I'm looking onwards and upwards and thinking about what the Senior Leadership Conference will bring for all of the black professionals in this network who want to break into the elite or into spheres where we're underrepresented. With new sponsors and great companies like BT, Bloomberg, Deloitte, PwC and Soho House as partners, we're looking forward to continuing to break down doors together.
